It's 3:14am at the moment and I've been up a while, so I thought I'd write a few things down as it's nice and quiet.
- I've moved Mastodon instances. Self-hosting was fine, but I'm not the most social of creatures so it was feeling expensive for the use and also gave me an opportunity to just disengage. So I picked a new instance centred on music so I felt some sort of connection. The moving process was fairly straightforward and it instantly felt like I'd gone somewhere welcoming. Because of how I am, I guess I need to be part of someone else's space, otherwise I just drift off on my own…
- Editing season 3 is pretty much done and a few tracks are appearing on Radio Free Fedi. I'm really pleased with how it has turned out, and I've made some new artwork starting with this sort of mandala effect, then I wanted to do something vintage and collage-y to bring things back into the world from space.
- I felt the source material was too obvious so I merged the two together to create a style of cover to use across Hiperad…
- Meanwhile, I've been prepping for recording live somewhere with no power - so I'm part way through building a small USB powerbank powered pedalboard. Hoping it will work, I'm keeping it to 3 pedals and a portable bluetooth type speaker. It can be interesting building these things and getting into gear, but I'm much more interested in what I do musically with it. So it feels a bit like necessary admin at the moment.
- Speaking of admin, I've been looking at PeerTube for keeping my video work somewhere better than YouTube. But I've not been in a video mood for a long time now so it feels like a lot of work to move a dead archive. Maybe it's time to let that go?
- More exciting, I was out playing with Steve and Jack on Wednesday. It's been slow this year and you can hear the rust, but we are starting to get back to playing together. It does make me want to do more live collaboration too, it's just where I feel most at home. Hopefully the new guitar will arrive in a few months and I'll tweak some sounds before ramping up that side of things.
- I'm slowly sorting out the home studio - very slowly. I guess you have to focus on infrastructure a while to get going on the real work. But that should be soon - I've got an idea of where a new podcast/season might fit…
